Absinthè 28 February 2020

What started out as an idea has ended up becoming one of the greatest sub-culture experiences their fans have grown to adore.

The two lead singers of the popular South African bands Wonderboom and Sugardrive, Cito and Paul E. Flynn, have joined forces on an elaborate musical journey.

They call the outfit Absinthè; a name that perfectly embodies the spirit of the project.

With Absinthè, they have taken a supper club approach to some of their favourite songs from the last century.

Intended to charm those in an unplugged environment, Absinthè has entertained music lovers around Southern Africa with an awesome show of great alternative classics to contemporary favourites.

Absinthè have had the pleasure (and honour) of opening for the UK legendary ska band, The Beat! in November of 2010 at a club in Fourways. More recently, the outfit has been selected to support Swedish pop masters, A-Ha at the Johannesburg leg of their world tour.

Through jamming together, Paul and Cito found that they had similar taste in music. Reminiscing about the alternative clubbing days at Le Club, The White Horse Inn, The Doors and Alcatraz, brought back the memories of the dance floor, heartbreak and escape.

Cito and Flynn thought it’d be a unique concept to keep them busy and having fun interpreting mutually admired songs by their great legendary influences such as Joy Division, the Verve, Pixies, Placebo, Coldplay, Depeche Mode, Kings of Leon, Johnny Cash, P.I.L. and many others.
